Panic attacks on the last day of indoor competition!

On a very rainy Sunday, on the absolute outskirts of the middle of nowhere, eight Panic-players prepared for the fourth and last day of the indoor competition. These included Gosse on his competition debut, and Edo, back from injury at last.

The long trip did nothing to dampen Panic's enthusiasm. Uncharacteristically, there was even some time for a team talk and warm-up before the first match. And even more amazingly, Panic managed to win the first match quite comfortably. In the last two editions of the indoor competition, the first two matches were usually chaotic and unfocused, taking away any chance of finishing top in the 6th division. This time, no such problems. Not only did Panic get into their tactics quickly, but everyone was playing with lots of energy and willingness to go all the way for a win. Vellesan Speedies 3 played their best, but came up a bit short against Panic.
This first match gave Panic a boost, and minds were quickly turning to a high-placed finish in the division.

The second match against Vellesan 2 was tough, very spirited and extremely close. Only in the last minutes did Panic manage to gain the advantage and take the game. We were all amazed by the Vellesan players, who were often only half the age of some Panic players. If these guys keep playing, the frisbee world will be in shock in a few years.

The third match against Vellesan 1 was more of the same. This one also went to the wire, with Panic's sheer determination and some great plays making the difference; a one-point margin all that was between the two teams.

WAF, although putting the effort in, were not able to stop the Panic train, that was now thundering ahead at full speed. A comfortable win was very welcome after two very demanding head-to-heads.

At the end of the day, only Gronical Dizziness 5 still stood in the way of an unprecedented top-place finish in the 6th division for Panic. GD had won all their matches so far as well, although one of the Speedies teams pushed them for all they were worth in the previous match. Having been relegated from the 5th division after not being able to attend the previous session because of a car accident, and having won all their matches this day in impressive style, GD were clearly the favourites to take the sixth division today.

However, Panic was prepared for GD's long-throwing game, and by taking away their deep options, forced GD to come up with other solutions. On offense, Panic played quick, moving the disk quickly, and slowed down well near the endzone to find the final scoring pass. Again, Panic didn't give anything away, putting the pressure on throughout the field and breathing down the necks of the GD players for the full 25 minutes of the game. Neither of the teams in ever went ahead by more than one point, providing for an extremely exciting game. With some fourty seconds left on the clock, Panic managed to go one point ahead. A quick resumption of the match gave GD one last chance for a deep throw into the endzone. It was caught by a GD player, who - unfortunately for them - landed on top, rather than on the right side, of the goal line. Panic were left slightly amazed by their own victory, and very happy with a 5 out of 5 score on the day.

Panic showed true determination and also intelligence this day. The progress the team has made since the first competition day is enormous. And not only tactically, but especially in terms of their motivation to win and their willingness to push themselves all the way. And all that with great spirit!
